The Sentinel was Wester Hailes’ community newspaper, produced by a local editorial board and delivered door to door throughout the area. Over the years, it went from being a monthly publication to fortnightly editions during the 1980s and 1990s. It included an impressive range of news, views, in-depth reports, local information, sport, music, politics, creative writing, campaigns, interviews with local and national leaders and celebrities, national issues, local concerns. It never missed an edition, and the attention to detail and journalistic integrity have made it an invaluable source as a record of the past, but also as an informer and guide to present day challenges and celebrations. Over the last 3 years, the blog has regularly featured pages from past editions and we have included a selection here.
