The Merriebelles were a dance troupe set up in 1974 in response to many young people asking for a dance group. They were a regular feature at galas and other community events and as their reputation grew they found themselves in demand for shows all over the region.
In 1980, they won nine out of the ten Gold Trophies in the Loanhead Majorette competition. The Sentinel followed their story and in 1984 wrote a feature on their success. You can read more about them here in Merriebelles Ten Years of Popular Demand.
