Yes, today marks a whole year of blogging about Wester Hailes! Over the last 12 months we’ve published 123 posts on a whole range of topics and issues. We’ve looked at everything from protest and community activism, demolition and rebuilding, the huts, the venchies, arts, sport, poetry, politics, transport, the carnival, music, fashion and even the pantomime! We started the blog because we think that there is plenty to be proud of in Wester Hailes and that the community’s history is something that should be documented and celebrated. Much of the material and photographs has been drawn from old copies of the Sentinel, the community newspaper that covered local news in Wester Hailes for over 30 years. The Sentinel represented the community and acted as a unified voice, campaigning on local issues as well as publicising events and promoting a positive image of the area.
The blog has received over 13,600 views. The three most popular posts are currently

In February we launched a Facebook page to link people to the blog and also to showcase more of the great photographs the Sentinel produced. There are currently 800 people who like this page and over 380 photos to view. We’ve recently added photos of the festival and carnival days. If you’ve not checked it out you’ll find the page at From There To Here: A Wester Hailes Story.
We’re now looking forward to another whole year of blogging! There’s certainly no shortage of material and plenty of topics to be covered. If you think we’re missing topics out or you’ve got a memory to share just let us know!
