The Sentinel nearly always included news items and reports about sport. Local football teams were given plenty of coverage but other sports were also reported on, especially where there was a local connection or win. A regular feature on the back page in the 1990s was the mysteriously named columnist Pat the McHat, providing opinion, commentary and often a humorous take on what was happening in the world of sport. Here’s a selection of Mr McHat’s columns from across the 1990s. As you will see, the back page often also featured an article about a local club.
November 1995: an assessment of Hibs progress. Westside Rangers football team is also featured.
March 1997: Issues around the Scottish Cup draw for Celtic and Rangers. The page also takes a look at Calders Boys Club.
July 1998: a consideration of footballers’ hairstyles. The local team featured is Clovenstone Boys club.
March 2000: Can Hibs win the Scottish Cup? Meadow Star are also featured.
