Wester Hailes residents were so incensed at the lack of response they felt they were receiving from officials that they staged a sit down protest at a full District council meeting in April 1982. The Council had originally agreed to hear from members of the Wester Hailes Representative Council who had asked to highlight the extent of the housing problems in Wester Hailes. When the Council did not seem particularly interested, angry residents pushed their way into the main chamber and sat down in protest. They remained peaceful but were eventually escorted from the building by police. The Sentinel reported on the story in May 1982 .
